Meeteetse School

Curriculum

Life Ready Curriculum

Rooted in Wyoming standards and powered by project-based learning, our curriculum gives every student the skills,

confidence, and agency needed to thrive in the world they’re entering.

Life Readiness

Welcome to the Curriculum & Instruction Hub for Meeteetse School. At Meeteetse, we believe that education is far more than covering standards, it’s about empowering each learner to climb higher, think deeper, and act with purpose. Grounded in meaningful project-based learning and centered on student voice and choice, our curriculum is designed for every student to become life-ready.

Our learning journey is anchored in these core beliefs:

  • Empowered Learners: Students actively shape their learning by asking questions, exploring real-world challenges, and making decisions that reflect their interests and strengths.

  • Purposeful Projects: Every unit moves beyond the textbook and into the world of authentic inquiry. Students collaborate, create, iterate, and reflect — building both content knowledge and lifelong skills.

  • Standards Aligned, Future Bound: While we align to Wyoming’s academic standards and ensure rigorous mastery, we also emphasize skills like communication, critical thinking, and self-management so students are ready to thrive beyond the classroom.

  • Voice & Choice: Learners have meaningful opportunities to choose topics, tools, roles, and products that reflect their own passions and goals. Teachers act as facilitators, guiding each student’s journey forward.

  • Continuous Growth: Our curriculum is not static. We engage in ongoing feedback loops — student reflections, peer reviews, and real-time data inform the next iteration of learning experiences.

Wyoming Content & Performance Standards

At Meeteetse School, the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards serve as the foundation of what our students learn, but how they learn is where the magic happens. These standards outline the essential knowledge and skills every Wyoming student should master, and we use them as the launchpad for rich, meaningful, project-based learning experiences that utilizes the competencies of the Wyoming Profile of a Graduate.

Rather than treating standards as checkboxes, we integrate them into authentic challenges, hands-on projects, and student-driven inquiry. Each unit is intentionally aligned to the state standards while giving students opportunities to explore topics that matter to them, ask big questions, collaborate with peers, and demonstrate understanding in ways that reflect their voice and strengths.

Our approach ensures that:

  • Essential content is mastered through purposeful work, not worksheets.

  • Skills like communication, creativity, problem solving, and adaptability are built alongside academic learning.

  • Every student can go deeper, applying standards in real-world ways through extended projects, community connections, and personalized learning pathways.

  • Assessment reflects learning, through performance tasks, reflection, and iterative improvement rather than simple memorization.

The Wyoming standards guide the “what,” but Meeteetse students help shape the “how.” This balance keeps learning rigorous, relevant, and rooted in preparing every learner to be truly Life Ready.

Assessment

At Meeteetse School, assessment is not an endpoint. It is part of the learning journey. Our approach blends Wyoming Content and Performance Standards with the authentic and hands on nature of project based learning. Students show what they know through real work, real thinking, and real reflection.

Instead of relying only on traditional tests, we use assessment to highlight growth, guide instruction, and empower student ownership. Every learner has opportunities to revise, improve, and demonstrate deeper understanding because learning does not happen in a single moment. It develops over time through effort, feedback, and iteration.

Our assessments celebrate progress, value student voice, and provide clear pathways for students to continue climbing higher in their learning.

Assessment Practices

Assessment at Meeteetse is designed to be meaningful, transparent, and connected to the work students are doing every day. Teachers use a variety of tools including performance tasks, project rubrics, student conferences, and reflections to develop a complete picture of learning.

Each course includes fifty points available toward a student’s grade.
- Forty points at the B level come from completing required assignments, tasks, and projects tied to Wyoming state standards and essential skills.
- The final ten points allow students to go deeper or broader through project based learning. They can extend their inquiry, apply learning in new contexts, or take on additional challenges that show higher level mastery.

These practices ensure students understand expectations, can track their progress, and have multiple opportunities to demonstrate their learning. Most importantly, students learn how to evaluate their own work, make adjustments, and take pride in continual improvement. This prepares every learner to be truly Life Ready.
